Anyone done Raptor Assault in Utah?

Sounds like a couple of you paid for a second driver. It costs $1500 to add a driver, correct? You both felt it was worth the money?

We did too, for this upcoming June. Wanted to have my wife along for the road trip as much as the assault school.

Don't expect much from the food they serve. I've had better hospital food.

I guess if I had to pick one part to suck and one part to be great, I'd go with the food suck/drive great choice.

I went last July. Hot and dusty doesn't begin to describe the conditions. At times you could not see the truck 30' in front. But ... it was lots of fun. The class is more about teaching you about how and when to use the various modes than it is about the actual driving. For obvious reasons neither Ford nor the instructors want you to damage their trucks or injure yourself, so on completion if you are expecting to be ready for the Baja 1000 you'll be disappointed. But you'll get a lot of information about your Raptor and how and when to use its features.

The food was okay, not great, but the dinner gives you a chance to take a close look at a RR chassis with the body removed and a Baja F150 on display. You'll meet the instructors and others in your class, as well as exchange information with them. If you go by yourself one of them will be in your truck with you.

The instructors are excellent and there is plenty of time for Q&A. Each instructor has off-road race experience, at least for my class.

As an aside, if you drive your own Raptor to the event, you might consider downloading "onXOffroad" and do some exploring in the mountains to the east of SLC. I went to USU for school and can say for sure Utah has lots to offer. If you are able, take advantage. If you fly in and rent a car, Logan is an hour and a half north and the drive through Logan Canyon over to Bear Lake is breathtaking (be sure and stop at the summit rest stop and get a Raspberry Shake in Garden City). There are several canyons around SLC and Provo that are also worthy. Get some sandwiches, drive up and stop at one of the numerous picnic areas and enjoy the near-by river - it's worth it. Park City is a great day stop too. There is a Toyota old truck museum in SLC near and to the west of the I-15 and 6th St exit. Lots of old one-offs. Hill Air Force Base in Ogden has an excellent indoor/outdoor air museum. The Browning Arms museum in Ogden is excellent and has the very first (also the one million, 10 million, etc) 1911 45 as well as many other arms invented by Browning. Bitchin Rides is filmed in SLC too.

Update: we are going on the f150 raptor trail because the ranger one is out of service. (Thank you Lady Luck)

He (37 year pro)mentioned jumps twice in a row but corrected with “drop downs”.

Talking to one of the gents in the garage he mentioned the rangers have 455 horsepower so at least we won’t be completely bone stock.

The only thing that would make this even better is if it got muddy during the laps.

Does anyone have experience with any dog boarding/daycare nearby? I’ll be traveling with my pup, camping and hoteling for a few weeks. He would be fine in the hotel room during the class and drive, but I don’t want him to have to hold it all day.

Have you asked any of the contacts at the school? I’m pretty sure a lot of them live around Toelle and could point you in the right direction. Who knows, they might enjoy his company for the day.
