Just looking for advice from the Ranger collective.

I have ordered an 2.7 XLT on May 4th this year. I haven't heard anything from the dealer (who I have been tracking online has plenty of 2.3s on the lot which don't seem to be selling). My last Ford email from months ago says they are working on my scheduled build date....

I have heard very minimal feedback about the 2.7 turbo and no actual reviews.

I also hear that the Ranger may switch to 2025 models soon.

That said, I would like to get a new Ranger by years end and I am beginning to have doubts that it will happen.

I was thinking about changing my order to a 2.3 Lariat with similar specs hoping this could make things easier.

What's your opinion? Is this a decent tradeoff if possible? Should I wait to see the 2025 models?

Thanks!

I'm kinda in the market to trade in my '21 Ranger a new one, but this close to years end, I am waiting for '25 MY, or discounted '24. I doubt I'll find a discounted '24, as there are none to be found around here. All dealers have "In Transit" on their sites, and those are usually already sold.
But it seems like you order may have been lost. You may want to contact Ford directly to check on the status of that one. But it may just be as quick to cancel and reorder the one you want.
Was there anything special or out of the ordinary that you optioned on the May order?

My order is pretty much a maximum spec'ed XLT with the 2.7 turbo. My dealer did have me add the spray in bedliner and soft folding tonneau cover (I had serious doubts about doing this but the dealer recommended it). Lastly, I have observed many 2.3 turbos on their lot, most of which were available in May when I placed the order. It could also be that my dealer has no allocations (and I am wasting time waiting on their inventory to sell). 😒

Hmm. When talking about an order with my dealer, he suggested NOT to option things like bed liner and cover from factory, as those are done off site and can delay delivery.

I agree I have heard similar things. I am having doubts about my local dealer unfortunately weather it be the options or allocations.

I’m currently driving the 2.7L and the extra power was worth the wait. You ordered in May, but the first build week for the 2.7L was August 5th. I took delivery on August 16th, and was the first 2.7L delivered to a forum member. Delivery for me was very quick because it was delivered via truck. Only 2-3 other members have received their 2.7L, most of the delays are caused by rail transport… If you want confirmation of what you are waiting for, test drive a 2.3L and a 2.7L Bronco back-to-back.

Ordered my 2.7 Ranger XLT Jun 10 2024. No bed liner, no tonneau. In production mid Aug built 1.5 weeks later, delivered 2 days after being built via trailer. (Michigan built and only across the river for me in Windsor). One of these other forums mentions 2024 2.7 L Ranger builds will stop soon, followed by a run of 2024 Raptors til end Sept, then on to the ‘25 models.
I am currently looking for a tow hook front plate holder that does not block front sensor. The current Swarfworks Raptor one I think blocks the sensor. Need a pure Ranger holder.

Did not get factory liner/tonneau in order to not delay delivery.

LineX spray Liner with Bakflip FibreMax tonneau and Corrosion Free, all installed in 4 hrs locally.

I would keep an eye on in transit 2.7 Rangers around your area and try to make a deal with one. Filter what you want with Cargurus and similar sites.

IMO, the 2.7L is a game changer for Non-Raptor Rangers. Everything I've seen and read is very positive on the 2.7L. The "1st Gen" 2.7L had some minor issues but Ford resolved that in the newer generation. Not that there is anything wrong with the 2.3L, it's been around a while and a good engine also. One pro I'll mention on the 2.7L is it is Port and Direct Injection which does away the the carbon buildup concern on the valves of the 2.3L since it is Direct Injection only. It's not a huge thing but a maintenance item eventually for the 2.3L. The 2.7L will probably do a little better on towing.

The only thing disappointing on going with the 2.7L is it currently forces you into a 4 x 4, which adds more cost if you don't need or want 4 x 4. Ford's original marketing stated it would be available in both 4 x 2 and 4 x 4 but apparently Ford changed their mind on that once it became orderable. Maybe future model years will allow the 4 x 2.

I have a friend with a 2.7L Bronco - very impressive.

As for reviews on the 2.7L engine itself, I learned alot from these links:

Hope you receive your truck soon!

How unique is your order?
CarGurus shows 476 2.7’s in the US with 273 being XLT. Of those figure 1/6 are actually on the lot. But I would start searching Autotrader, CG, cars.com for XLT V6 in the color you want. Then go to the dealers page to see the window sticker if it matches what you want.

Then just call them, tell them the price you have on your incoming (not real truck) and see if they’ll meet or beat it.

Same. My salesman mentioned that the bedliner might delay by a week or two. I'm not in a rush and wanted all of my warranty done through Ford, plus saving $150 or so compared to premium LineX

FWIW, I bought a 2.7 XLT, 301a, with Tow/Tech, rear locker, bed step, and chrome package + side rails off the lot on Saturday for MSRP - X-Plan. I used cars.com and did a search for 2024 XLT with a 6cyl in my 2 acceptable color choices and had to do some window sticker looking on dealer sites but there were roughly a dozen in the OH/MI area that were red or blue on lots with the 2.7 (quite a few more if you wanted black, white, grey, different grey, other grey, or other other grey).

If you like gas mileage and longevity, get the 2.3. Just traded in my 2019 XLT with 135,000 miles on the clock all original except tires, averaging 26mpg CITY! Plenty of power for my usage.

The 2024 2.3 mileage out the gate is IMPRESSIVE!

The spray-in liner added about a week to the process for my build.
In production 09/06, built 09/15, shipped 09/15
